A 55-year-old retired nurse succumbed on Monday morning in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (COVID-19).

Mark King had been a patient for approximately 10 days.

King, who served the hospital as a nurse for about 31 years, was reportedly admitted to the hospital just under two weeks ago and presented a number of symptoms related to the virus.

According to information received, a sample was subsequently taken from the former nurse and the results returned positive. King was then taken to the COVID-19 ICU as a result of the symptoms that he presented.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) expressed condolences to King’s relatives. The release noted that Nurse King was loved by peers and patients and was known for his “tireless dedication to helping others”.

King, who last served at the Accident and Emergency Department, proceeded on retirement in July this year.

An outpouring of love for King flooded social media from his peers, who all recalled that during his time at the hospital he was giving and loving. One of his colleagues who noted that she was heartbroken by the news of King’s death posted on social media that the former nurse was kind and worked hard for his patients.
