The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation has cancelled the rest of the season because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

All local powerlifting activities will be shelved until 2021.

This is according to a press release sent out by the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) last night.

The release is as follows:

“Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all activities for the remainder of 2020. There will be no participation in any international competitions until there is guaranteed safety for our athletes and officials.

This pandemic has presented many health and safety issues. As such it would be ill- advised for us to hold events without potentially placing everyone at our events at risk. We have appreciated your support over the years and we look forward to resuming events in 2021.

Meanwhile, the executive members of the GAPLF offers their prayers and best wishes to all who have been affected by this pandemic and hope for a quick return to normalcy for us all.

Thank you for your patience and please stay safe.”
