Bank DIH truck driver on causing death charge after Trafalgar collision

A Banks DIH Limited truck driver was on Monday charged with causing the death of Ravindra Arjune, who recently succumbed following injuries he suffered in a three-vehicle accident along the Trafalgar, West Coast Berbice (WCB) Public Road.

Morguen Forde, 32, appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court, where the charge of causing death by dangerous driving was read to him.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was subsequently released on $200,000 bail. He was also ordered to return on November 4th at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, where the matter will be called again.

The accident occurred on the morning of September 25th. At the time, Arjune, 38, of Section ‘D,’ Nonpareil, East Coast Demerara was the driver of a Bakewell truck, GYY 3967, Morguen was driving a Banks DIH Limited truck and a 43-year-old seaman of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice was driving a car.

Police had said their investigations revealed that the Banks DIH truck was proceeding east along the northern lane of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, while the car was proceeding in the opposite direction in front of the truck that Arjune was driving.

The police said Forde alleged that he was proceeding along the road when an unknown truck “suddenly” stopped in front him.

Upon noticing this, Forde said he applied brakes and then pulled to the left lane before switching back to the right. As a result, he collided with the car and then the truck in which Arjune was in.

As a result of the collision, Arjune was pinned in the truck. He was eventually freed by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state.

Arjune was subsequently transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted until his demise on October 2nd.
