Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. in his quest to interact with most, if not all of the local sport associations, came one step closer to his goal when he met with the executives of the Lusignan Golf Club last Saturday.

The Minister was accompanied by the President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana, Mitra Ramkumar and Kashif Muhammad who is in the running to be the country’s next Director of Sport. “The guests played two quick holes after which they engaged the Executive Committee of the Club on various matters regarding the ways in which the club can benefit through a set of initiatives proposed by the government as well as the tourism authority,” the Club said via a release.

“The acquisition of adjacent lands, strategic public-private partnerships and the possible sponsorship of tournaments,” were some of the substantive matters discussed, stated the club its release.

Further, the committee said it was confident that these initiatives will popularise the sport in Guyana as well as provide employment opportunities for many Guyanese in the future, especially those in the Lusignan community.

It was noted that the Lusignan Golf Club is the only golf course in Guyana and is committed to public-private partnerships to further develop the sport as well as tourism in Guyana given the soon-to-be-built Five Star hotels.

According to the release, the Minister was very impressed with the efforts of executives and encouraged the members to persevere with determination to make Lusignan Golf Club a model for others to follow.
