Cop seriously injured in Corentyne accident

An accident along the Number 60 Public Road, Coren-tyne on Tuesday around 9.30 pm has left a police constable seriously injured in the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. 

According to information gathered, Police Constable 24454 Dellon Harvey, 24, of Lot 114, Number 51 Village, Corentyne, who is stationed at the Rose Hall Police Outpost and Senard Douglas, 23, of Number 53 Village, Corentyne, were in PVV 3113 when the accident occurred. 

It was reported that they were proceeding at a fast rate when it is claimed that the driver reportedly saw cows on the roadway a short distance ahead, causing him to swerve to avoid a collision.

He was then said to have lost control of the vehicle and collided with a concrete culvert and then with a metal gate along the main public road. 

According to eyewitnesses, the passenger was quickly removed from the vehicle by public-spirited persons while the driver was pinned for some time.

Following intervention by ranks of the Guyana Police and Guyana Fire Service, the driver was eventually removed.   

After the accident, both persons were rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital from where the constable was immediately transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. As of yesterday afternoon, the constable’s condition was listed as serious.
