‘Hot Skull’ found guilty of murdering amateur footballer

Alvin Jones was yesterday convicted of the murder of amateur footballer Paul Daniels, who was killed during a robbery in 2017.

Jones, called ‘Shawn’ and ‘Hot Skull,’ was on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the High Court in Georgetown where he was found guilty of the charge by a 12-member jury.

It was alleged that on February 2nd, 2017 at Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Jones murdered Daniels in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

Jones was represented by attorney-at-law Stanley Moore, while the state was represented by prosecutors Shawnette Austin and Nafeeza Baig.

Attorney Moore requested that a probation report be prepared for his client before sentencing. Justice Sewnarine-Beharry agreed and deferred sentencing until December 22nd, 2020.

Police, in a statement on the murder, had said that Daniels was watching television at the home of his girlfriend, Christine Castillo, when two robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered the apartment. The police had said that according to the report made, the two entered through a northern door which had been left open and Daniels was relieved of a gold chain that he was wearing and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The police added that Daniels made an attempt to retrieve the stolen items and chased after the men, who shot him in his chest. Whilst the men hopped on their bicycles and escaped, Daniels was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
