HAMILTON , Bermuda, CMC – Former Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive Neil Speight has been elected to take up another prestigious position at the International Cricket Council (ICC), the world governing body of the sport, the Royal Gazette newspaper said on Saturday.
In a secret ballot, Speight was one of three voted in as an ICC Associate Member director. The others are Imran Khwaja, of Singapore, and Malaysia’s Mahinda Vallipuram, who were re-elected.
Voting opened last Monday and closed on Friday with Khwaja receiving 34 votes, Vallipuram 19 and Speight 16, the Gazette said.
Speight, who previously was a member of the ICC Board, sits on the Chief Executives Committee as an Associate representative.
When he left his position at the BCB in January 2019 – after 24 years of continuous service at board level – Speight had been the longest-serving sports executive on the island, except for David Sabir, the Bermuda Football Association general secretary.
ICC chairman Greg Barclay said of the selections: “I welcome all the elected Associate Member Directors and I look forward to continue working with Imran and Mahinda and getting Neil on board as we look to lead the sport and grow it around the world.”
