Crane cleaner robbed at gunpoint

Police have stated that investigations into the armed robbery of a Crane Housing Scheme, W.C.D., cleaner, are ongoing.

According to a police release yesterday, Annamae Harris, 52, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, was robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday night at about 8:50, while she was heading home. The police said that the woman was relieved of a handbag, containing her cellphone, bank cards, NIS card and $221,000 cash.

It further informed that the cleaner was headed in a westerly direction along Best Road when she observed a brown motor car parked some distance ahead of her. As the woman drew closer, a man jump out of the back-seat of the vehicle. He reportedly rushed toward her, pointed a gun at her, and demanded that she hand over her handbag, but she refused. The robber then proceeded to strike the woman on her arm, causing her to release the handbag. The man then returned to the car which was waiting for him and made good his escape.
