Two homeless after Haslington fire

A fire of unknown origin on Saturday morning gutted a Haslington, East Coast Demerara residence leaving two persons homeless. At the time of the incident, no one was home.

According to a police report, twenty-five-year-old Ann Eve Knights who resided at the residence with her sister left her home at 8.15 am to place orders for bread and pastries for a business she operates.

While at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, Knights was informed of the fire.

The gutted house was a wooden structure measuring about 10 by 20 feet in size. The fire service was said to have responded promptly but by the time they arrived, the house had already been reduced to embers.

The building did not have electricity.

Police are investigating.
