Kalesh Puran, General Manager of Puran Brothers Inc, is presently awaiting official word from the Mayor and City Council regarding the company being excluded from the new listing of garbage collectors in the city.

Puran during an interview with Stabroek News disclosed that concern was raised after viewing a listing on the Mayor and City Council’s (M&CC) Facebook page, where it showed the council had awarded contracts to other contractors.

He said that he is unsure of where the company stands since no official statement was received informing them that their services were no longer needed.

Nevertheless, he said, in spite of the conflicting reports received, the company continues to work with the council and is operating in 5 districts. He noted that efforts to contact the council were greeted with conflicting reports but stated that he will continue to pursue the matter this week.

Additionally, he said the council owes Puran Brothers over $70 million for the periods of 2019 and 2020.

In December of last year, the council hosted a bidding process which he said the company took part in.

He added that the company has been working with the council for 35 years and has evolved while giving them nothing but the highest standard of service.

Puran admitted that should the council exclude them from conducting works, it will affect their workers and company negatively, since many of their employees are engaged in doing that segment of work as stipulated by the council.

However, he acknowledged that it is the council’s decision and not much can be done from his end but just await confirmation. The general manager opined that should the council go ahead with the present listing, it will encounter challenges since collecting waste in the city is no easy task. He told this newspaper that solid waste is a passion of Puran’s and they take pride in the work they carry out

Puran declared his company’s commitment to the council and noted that they have worked hard and diligently to fulfill calls from the council, doing whatever they can to assist. Even lowering prices, he added.

He iterated  that Puran Bros is keen on the health and safety protocols, ensures that its staff are compensated, and fulfills all its obligations to the state..
