Two more COVID-19 deaths, 76 new cases

The Ministry of Health yesterday said that two more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 172.

The latest fatalities are two males, a 78-year-old from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 60–year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), the ministry said.

Meanwhile, there was another steep rise in COVID-19 cases with 76 being reported yesterday. On January 23rd, 79 new cases were reported, 76 on January 22nd and 52 on January 21st.  The rapid rise in cases has come in the aftermath of the Christmas holidays where there was increased socialising and the continued relaxation of COVID measures.
