The police are currently investigating a robbery under arms committed on Xin Bang Yu at People’s Supermarket located at Wales, West Bank Demerara.
Police investigations so far have revealed that Yu, the 49-year-old owner of the supermarket was robbed of $115,000 and a quantity of Digicel phone cards worth $50,000.
At the time of the robbery both Yu and his 16-year-old assistant were in the supermarket at the cashier’s section, when they were approached by two masked men both armed with handguns.
The report informed that the two suspects, at about 20:15 hours, walked into the supermarket and pointed their guns at the victim and his assistant, demanding cash.
The two men removed the cash and phone cards from the cash register before walking out of the supermarket.
Police are presently review-ing CCTV footage of the robbery which was captured by surveillance cameras in the supermarket.
Investigations are ongoing.
