Rupert Marshall,  convicted three times for driving under the influence, was on Thursday permanently disqualified from having a licence.

Marshall, 49, of Lot 172 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, made his appearance before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, to answer to the following offences – driving a motor vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, breach of Insurance, and to the charge of being an unlicenced driver.

Marshall pleaded guilty to the offence of driving a motor vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit but pleaded not guilty to the breach of insurance charge. He further told the court that his driver’s licence had indeed expired, but the Guyana Revenue Authority provided him with a document which permitted him to drive; for this charge Marshall pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Ally-Seepaul then sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of $7,500 and ordered that, given that it was his third conviction for the offence of driving a vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, he be permanently disqualified from being the holder of a driver’s licence.

Bail was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 per remaining charges and the matter was postponed to February 4th, for report.
