Three Corentyne men who were allegedly busted with firearms and ammunition in Port Mourant last Thursday have since been charged and placed on $250,000 bail each.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement yesterday said that “an intelligence-led operation on February 11, 2021, conduct-ed a search on a house in Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice during which two 9mm pistols, three magazines, thirty-two 9mm live rounds and fifty twelve-gauge shotgun cartridges were unearthed”.

Romeo Singh, owner of the property of Port Mourant; Deon Poonai of Number 73 Village and Sammy Kristamma of Number 1 Road, Corentyne, on Tuesday appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, where they were charged.

The men were all placed on $250,000 bail and will return to court on March 25.

The force’s statement had noted that the men “who were all occupants of the house were arrested” on Thursday. The items found were lodged.
