Region Four woman, 69, dies of COVID

Guyana yesterday recorded another COVID-19 fatality even as 51 new cases of the virus were reported.

The Ministry of Health in a press release stated that as of Tuesday another person who had tested positive for the virus died. The individual was identified as a 69-year-old woman from Region Four who died while receiving care at a medical facility.  The COVID death toll is now 189.

Meanwhile, some 51 new cases were recorded which increased the country’s total positive confirmed cases to 8,313. These cases came after some 559 more persons were tested for the virus which increased the total number of persons tested to date to 55,857.

Of the new cases Region Four recorded the majority with 36 new cases, seven cases were recorded in Region Three, one in Region Five, four in Region Six and three in Region Seven. As a result there are now 597 active cases, 42 of which are in institutional isolation while another 555 are in home isolation.

Some eight persons remain patients of the COVID-19 intensive Care Unit even as some 33 more persons have recovered from the virus thus increasing the total number of recovered cases in the country to 7,519.
