One more COVID death, 51 new cases

Fifty-one new COVID-19 cases were on Tuesday recorded even as another  fatality was also reported.

The new death increased Guyana’s death toll as a result of the virus to 209, according to the ministry of health. In a press release the ministry noted that the latest fatality was identified as a 66-year-old woman from Region Four who died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, the 51 new cases that were recorded increased the total number of positive confirmed cases in the country to 9,238. The new cases came after some 1,012 more persons were tested for the virus, thus increasing the total number of persons tested to date, to 77,427.

There are now 664 active cases, 38 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 626 are in home isolation. There are now seven persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as some 48 more persons have recovered from the virus. As a result the total number of recovered cases now stands at 8,359.
