Labourer and vendor charged with illegal possession of firearms

A labourer and a vendor were yesterday charged with illegal possession of firearms and released on bail.

Derrick Norton, 37, a labourer of Lot 146 Cooper Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, and Danny Rajkumar, 30, a vendor of Lot 28 School Street, Dia-mond, East Bank Deme-rara, were separately charged when they appear-ed at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, with illegally having firearms in their possession.

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly read the charge to them.

It is alleged that on February 11, at Princes Street, Lodge, George-town, Norton had in his possession, ammunition and a firearm while he is not the lawful holder of a firearm licence. Norton denied the charge and was placed on $100,000 bail. He will make his next court appearance on April 9.

Rajkumar was charged with having a .32 Taurus Pistol in his possession on February 15, at Takubo Road, Tucville, George-town, while not being the holder of a firearm licence. He pleaded guilty with explanation and was placed on $150,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to April 23.
