Schoolchildren of Enterprise Village, East Coast Demerara, will now have easier access to school with the planned construction of a pedestrian bridge linking the community with Non Pariel.

A release yesterday from the Ministry of Public Works stated that Minister Deodat Indar had visited Enterprise where he committed to the construction of a pedestrian bridge which will link the community with the village of Non Pariel. He explained that he was informed that with the absence of a bridge, the school children have been forced to take a longer and more dangerous route to and from school.

“Between Non Pariel and Enterprise where the school children have to journey to go to school and then do the same to come home, we will be connecting a foot path bridge there too so that it would be easier and safer to get to school back and forth.”

According to the release, another community bridge which is currently in a very dilapidated condition will be rehabilitated.

Indar also took the opportunity to inspect the condition of the roads, which he noted will undergo “sectional repairs.” He also told residents that he will make representation on behalf of the community to ensure the drains and canal are dug but appealed to them to be cooperative when developmental works commence.

Over in Success, East Coast Demerara,  Indar who was joined by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, inspected a playfield which was deemed “abandoned” by residents who complained bitterly about the lack of fencing and other shortcomings of the structure. With the field being unfenced, animals have been entering and leaving droppings behind which deters the children from using the facility for sporting events.

A decision was made to rehabilitate the playfield as a collaboration between the two ministries.

Indar also visited several sites in Success where works are currently ongoing. He stated his satisfaction with the pace of work and urged new contractors to get on board to ensure that more work is done, and in a timely manner.

Overall, ten roads will be rehabilitated in Success, while six will be done in Enterprise, the release added.
