BCB in line for major assistance

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) later this year, is expected to be the recipient of  unprecedented assistance coming from  India and England while two international English players are set for a two-day visit.

This was revealed by president of the county board, Hilbert Foster during the unveiling of the BCB/Shimron Hetmyer Trust Fund on Sunday.

According to Foster, “We will create history when containers of gear will arrive in Guyana sometime later this year from England and also from India and from India we are also expecting computers and bicycles, etc., for our young cricketers who need them. Every single cricket club in Berbice and every single school in Berbice will benefit.”

Foster, while not revealing names, indicated that the board is expected by mid-year to host “Two of the highest paid cricketers in the world. They’re both from England.”

The BCB boss explained that both have already agreed and former Test cricketer, Roland Butcher is assisting in making the arrangements to have them visit clubs in the county.

Foster said that upon assuming office in 2018, his administration has raised “an unbelievable $40 million in cash and kind,” having inherited an account with around $43,000.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the body, along with Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club has distributed over 10,000 food hampers. It was during this time BCB Patron and Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat donated one million dollars while Brian Ramphal and Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh have invested $500,000 and $875,000 respectively.
