Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), the sport’s premier private coordinators of youth and school programmes, has inked a lucrative partnership with international firm Edison Chouest Offshore and its local subsidiary G-Boats Guyana.

This was confirmed during a simple presentation ceremony staged yesterday at the Sonic Business Services headquarters, Alberttown.

Christopher Bowman, Co-Director of YBG, revealed that the sponsorship from Edison Chouest Offshore and G-Boats Guyana is to the tune of GYD$1,800,000.

He also revealed that systems are being implemented for a possible restart in July-August period.

However, Bowman conceded that any attempt to resume activities will be dependent on the prevailing Covid-19 climate.

According to Bowman, “This is not a tournament being launched. This is just a restart strategy. This year, when we do launch a tournament, it will be a downsized tournament in the first instance and initially, we are going to be working with schools that have facilities or access to facilities so the tournament becomes more local in this new pandemic era.”

He added that the entity will commence the process of working with teachers and coaches who are attached to schools that have the requisite facilities.

This, he stated, forms part of the resocialization process.

Meanwhile, Daniel LaFont, representative of Edison Chouest Offshore and G-Boats Guyana, stated that the company was  excited to formulate the partnership.

“We saw that basketball was sort of the lower tier sport; you got the cricket, the soccer, and I have been to field hockey as well and we were like where is the basketball,” he declared.

“This is what we are looking for, something that helps the youth of Guyana, something that helps them develop, something that keeps them focused, something that teaches them more than basketball but teaches them how to be men and women,” he added.

Edison Chouest Offshore is an American Company with local subsidiary G-Boats Guyana. The Edison Chouest Offshore Companies (ECO) are considered amongst the most diverse and dynamic marine transportation solution providers in the world.
