Labourer charged with $1m theft from Critchlow Labour College

A labourer was yesterday remanded after denying that he broke into the Critchlow Labour College (CLC) and stole valuables amounting to over $1 million.

Devon Hubbard, 24, of 91 Garnett Street, Campbellville, was remanded by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that between March 9 and March 10 at Woolford Avenue, he broke and entered the CLC and stole items amounting to $1,191,000, property of Stanley Paul. The items include a quantity of laptops, tablets, headphones and cellphones. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, he was refused bail after the police prosecutor voiced his objection. The prosecutor told the court that the charge is a serious one. He added that a witness who had received one of the stolen items has expressed fear of being contacted by the accused.

Hubbard was then remanded and told to appear on March 31.
