16 applications received for radio frequencies

The Office of Prime Minister has received 16 applications for radio frequencies.

According to a notice published in the Official Gazette, the applications have been made in keeping with Section 30(2) and 25 (1) (b) of the Tele-communications Act of 2016.

Among the applicants are six security services and six taxi services. The security services include Frontier Security Service of Tucville, Georgetown, Security Safety Services, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, Brothers Security Firm, of East La Penitence, Georgetown, Gupta Security, of No.2 Village, in East Canje, Berbice, Black Mountain Guyana Inc, of Quamina Street, Georgetown. Also applying is Modern Security Service, which is based at the Crichlow Labour College Compound.

These services propose to utilise channels on the Very High Frequency Band (VHF) of 136.0-174.0 and the Ultra High Frequency channels of 403.0-470.0 and 490.0-520.0.

Taxi Services which have applied include Ace Taxi Service Car and Bus Rental, of Atlanticville, East Coast Demerara, Godfrey Neblette, of ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Vibert Crandon, of New Amsterdam, Essential Cabs and Auto Rental of Lodge, Georgetown, Parmanand Ramlall (applicant’s name), of La Grange, West Bank Demerara, and L&S Taxi Service of New Amsterdam. These services have requested access to channels on the VHF of 136-174 and UHF of 403.0-470.0 and 450.0-527.0.

The remaining four applications request the use of UHF Channels 462.5625-462.7250 for staff communications. These applications were received from Andrew Forrester, of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, Morsha Johnson, of LBI, East Coast Demerara, BSR Mining Inc, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, and Century Tamara Logistical Services Inc. of Campbellville, Georgetown.

Section 30 (2) of the Telecommunications Act directs that a person who wishes to use the spectrum, and install and operate radio communication equipment for such purposes, shall submit an application for a frequency authorization… in the manner specified in the regulations.

Section 25(1) (b) further adds that a body corporate or group of affiliated bodies corporate that operate a private telecommunications network or provides any private telecommunications service shall obtain a frequency authorisation in the same manner if its telecommunications network includes a radio communication network or provides a radio communication service or otherwise uses the spectrum or radio communication equipment.

Person or persons who may be affected by any of the 16 applications have been asked to contact the Telecommunications Agency by April 29, 2021.
