Fourteen persons were arrested early on Sunday morning after the police raided a party at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara to enforce the COVID-19 measures.

A Guyana Police Force (GPF) press release stated that the 14 persons were among some 200 persons who were told by police to disperse from a party spot at Pouderoyen. The police said that the persons who were arrested were allegedly defiant, hence they were promptly arrested and charged.

It was stated that the exercise was conducted during the ‘wee’ hours of the morning and that the charge was breach of curfew.

The GPF said that it is continuing to enforce the COVID-19 guidelines and is appealing to citizens to adhere to the 10.30pm to 4am curfew. It has requested that reports of breaches be made to the National COVID-19 Task Force hotlines 626-6674, 624-3067, 624-2819 and toll free (GTT) 0180.
