Two Region Four deaths lift COVID toll to 231

Two more COVID-19 deaths were yesterday recorded in Guyana, increasing the total number of deaths in the country to 231.

The Ministry of Health made the announcement in a press release which stated that two more persons who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus have died.

 The two were identified as a 56-year-old woman from Region Four and a 79-year-old woman from Region Four. They both died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, 10 new cases of the virus were reported which increased the total number of positive confirmed cases in the country to 10,192.

The new cases came after some 452 more persons were tested bringing the total number of persons tested to 89,014.

The new cases were reported in four of the country’s ten administrative regions, two in Region Three, six in Region Four and one each in regions Six and Seven. As a result there are now 951 active cases in the country, 58 of which are in institutional isolation while 893 are in home isolation. One more person was admitted to the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit increasing the number of persons who are patients at the facility to 12.

Seventy-six more persons have recovered from the virus, which takes the total number of recovered cases to 8,998.
