CANU intercepts man, 64, with suspected ganja suitcase

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) yesterday apprehended a 64-year-old man with a suitcase containing nine parcels of suspected marijuana weighing a total of around 10 lbs.

In a statement, CANU said that Clarence Wrights, 64, of Lot 54 Bagotville was intercepted in the market area along Hadfield and Water streets near the old GNCB yesterday afternoon.

In his pants pocket he also had two small ziploc parcels of suspected cannabis. A quantity of cash was also found in his possession.

He entered the city from the West Bank of Demerara by way of the Stabroek Market Stelling in Georgetown and was seen pulling the suitcase which when searched revealed the suspected ganja. The street value is reportedly US$40,000.
