Lusignan prisoners injured during brawl

Two prisoners were injured on Sunday night after they were involved in an argument which escalated into a fight at the Lusignan Prison.

Injured are Gerald Jones, 26 of Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Deme-rara (ECD) and Kaley Roberts, 26 of Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden.

The incident took place around 7.55 pm.

Reports are that the two inmates are housed in separate Holding bays of the prison. Jones is an inmate of Holding Bay 2 while Roberts is of Holding Bay 1.

According to the police, enquiries revealed that Jones allegedly left his holding bay and went to that of Roberts during which they were engaged in a heated argument.

The argument escalated into a fight.

During the process, the police said Jones who was armed with an improvised cutlass allegedly chopped Roberts.

In retaliation, the police added that Roberts who was armed with an improvised ice pick subsequently dealt Jones several stabs to his chest.

Both of the men were taken to the prison infirmary for medical attention.

However, Roberts was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal (GPH) further treatment.

The matter is being investigated by both the police and the Guyana Prison Service.
