Riverstown shopkeeper chopped after intervening in argument

A Riverstown, Essequibo man was brutally chopped about his body after intervening in an argument between a man and his reputed wife at Silver Hill landing, Mazaruni, Region Seven.

Police said the man identified as ‘Plait Hair’ and his reputed wife were involved in a heated argument and arrived at the shop where the victim Ryan Jones worked as a shopkeeper.

As the argument continued, Jones cautioned the man about his behaviour.

Annoyed by what was said to him, the suspect, who was at the time armed with a cutlass and a knife, launched an attack on Jones.

During the attack, Jones sustained several stabs wounds about his body. The suspect then fled the scene and made good his escape.

Public-spirited persons at the landing rushed to Jones’ assistance and took him to the Bartica Public Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and admitted.

Investigations are continuing.
