Guard accidentally shoots self at Lusignan, claims that he was attacked and robbed

The police say they are conducting investigations into the accidental discharge of a loaded firearm which occurred yesterday at 18:54 hrs at Allied Health Pharmacy, Area H, Lusignan, ECD.

 

Police investigations so far have revealed that 21-year-old Ntini Garnette who resides at Haslington, ECD, is a security guard attached to Sheriff Security Services. He was earlier issued with a duty firearm – to wit one .38 pistol and five rounds of live ammunition as he was rostered for duty at the above mentioned location.

 

On the date and time mentioned, the police say that the victim accidentally shot himself in the left leg. He then dropped the firearm and ran into the pharmacy, where he was on duty.

 

The police said the firearm was then picked up by one Emile Medima Perdomo, a 21-year-old  Venezuelan of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, who joined a minibus but was apprehended on Rupert Craig Highway with the said firearm.

 

Garnette then called and told his supervisor that he had been shot and robbed of his firearm. He was taken to the GPHC and is currently undergoing treatment and his condition is listed as stable.

 

The said firearm, ammunition and spent shell was lodged at Vigilance Police Station.

 

The entire episode was captured on CCTV, the police said.
