Three more COVID fatalities, 81 new cases

The Ministry of Health yesterday said that three more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 344.

The latest fatalities are a 45-year-old female and a 68-year-old male from Demerara-Mahaica and a 60-year-old woman from Essequibo Islands-West Demerara.

The ministry said that the patients were admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms but died while receiving care at its medical institutions. Samples were taken at the time of admission which subsequently returned positive tests. 

The ministry also reported yesterday there were 81 new cases of the virus. Fifteen persons are in the ICU.
