First vaccines number over 203,000 – Anthony

Vaccination numbers in Guyana have been steadily increasing.

This was revealed by Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony during his daily COVID-19 update yesterday where he stated that more persons are coming out to be inoculated and as a result the total number of persons receiving first doses has passed 203,000.

“More people have been coming out to get their vaccines and so as of yesterday we have 203,847 persons with their first dose so there has been a little increase, we’re now at 41.9% of our adult population receiving their first dose”, he said.

In addition to that some 70,778 persons have come forward and received their second doses and can now be considered fully immunized. To this end the minister noted that as it relates to the percentage of persons vaccinated per age groups, the category of 60 years and above still has the highest percentage to date.

“Persons 60 years and above we now have about 70.5 percent of those persons receiving their vaccine that is the first dose”, he said. Anthony went on to say that in the 40 to 59 years age group some 38.3% of persons in that age group have received their first dose and just 33.7% of persons in the 18 to 39 years age group have been inoculated. He  noted that the ministry has been working to have more persons in that category vaccinated.

During the update the minister said that Region Ten continues to be an outlier as it is still lagging behind other regions in terms of vaccination. Anthony said that the region is just above 12% though the national average stands in the mid forty’s. “There’s still a long way to go with Region Ten and we have to keep pressing and continuing the work there”, he added.
