Kaneville man robbed, beaten by gang in early morning home invasion

A Kaneville, East Bank Demerara man and his wife were robbed by five men, armed with a handgun and cutlasses, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The police, in a report, revealed that the victims, a 52-year-old driver and his 36-year-old wife, were robbed at approximately 2.30 am.

The report said the victims secured their home on Wednesday and retired to bed but were later awakened by a repeated loud banging sound on their western door.

Upon investigating, the husband was confronted by the perpetrators in his living room.

The report noted that one of the perpetrators dealt the man a chop to his head before demanding that he hand over cash and other valuables. As a result, he handed over $220,000.

However, the perpetrators continued to ransack the house and gathered a 43” Samsung Smart TV, valued at $232,000, six birds, three hand bags containing 3 silver chains and 3 silver rings worth $39,000 in total, a Samsung A10 phone, valued at $42,000, and a Blu cellphone, worth $28,000.

The report further stated that the suspects, not satisfied with what they took, demanded more cash. However, the husband informed them that he had no more cash and as a result was beaten about his body with a cutlass as the men threatened to shoot him.

The perpetrators later escaped in an unknown direction, while the injured man was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
