Met-en-Meerzorg woman dies after being hit by truck

A 56-year-old Met-en-Meerzorg, West Coast Demerara woman is now dead after she was struck down by a truck while crossing the De Kindren Public Road on Friday afternoon.

Dead is Sherrane Hollingsworth, of Fifth Street, Met-en-Meerzorg.

According to the Police, the accident occurred at 2.20 pm along the De Kindren Public Road.

At the time, a truck, GZZ 4439, driven by 60-year-old Keith Peters, was proceeding west along the southern side of the De Kindren Public Road when Hollingsworth, who was standing along the northern side of the road, walked from north to south across the road and into the path of the vehicle.

As a result, the left side of the vehicle hit her causing her to fall to the road surface. The police said that Hollingsworth was picked up by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced her dead on arrival.

A notice of intended prosecution was served on Peters after which a breathalyzer test was conducted on him but no trace of alcohol was detected. Up to yesterday Peters remained in police custody.
