A West Coast Berbice man was yesterday remanded to prison over the murder of his mother, Teshwattie Jaglall, who was found with multiple injuries in her house last Thursday morning.

Deonarine Dookhoo, 41, of Number 3 Village, West Coast Berbice appeared at the Fort Well-ington Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magis-trate Peter Hugh where the charge was read to him.

He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison.

He will return to court on July, 19.

Jaglall, also known as ‘Babo’, of Lot 4 No. 3 Village, West Coast Ber-bice, was discovered with injuries to various parts of her body.

Dookhoo, also known as ‘Dinesh’, 41, a security guard, and his two children – ages six and two – resided with the woman in her house.

A police source had told Stabroek News that it is believed that the killer used a cutlass to beat and chop the woman in the hallway. Police had discovered the suspected murder weapon aback the house.

Initially, the accused had reported to the police that some men had broken into the house and attacked the woman but investigators quickly became suspicious as his story had several inconsistencies.

After further investigations, investigators placed the man in police custody.
