Miner stabbed to death by co-worker over treatment of camp cook

A miner was on Sunday night stabbed to death after an argument over the treatment of a fellow worker at Ithaki Backdam, Mazaruni River.

The dead man has only been identified as Damieon, called ‘Wild Buck’, of Paramakatoi Village, Region 8.

The police, in a statement, revealed that the deceased and the 27-year-old suspect both worked together at a mining camp at Ithaki backdam.

On Sunday, the police noted, the two men had a disagreement over the way the suspect was treating a woman who is employed as a cook at the camp and it led to a fight between them.

The statement added that the suspect pulled out a knife and dealt the victim a stab to his neck, causing him to become motionless. 

The injured man was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect has since been arrested.
