Recht-Door-Zee man shot by bandits in home attack

A man is now hospitalised after he was shot in his leg on Monday during a robbery at Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the injured man and his wife were relieved of $200,000 in cash, several pieces of jewellery and a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $55,000 by two men.

According to the GPF, the man’s wife was in their verandah along with her mother when she saw the two suspects jumping the western gate to enter her yard.

Immediately after, the suspects ran up to the wife and held her at gun point, before relieving her of cash and jewellery.

As one of the men, who was armed with a knife, remained on the lookout, his accomplice went into the house and demanded cash from her husband.

During that time, a round was discharged in the husband’s direction, hitting him on his left leg.

The suspects then took the cash and made good their escape via a waiting vehicle.

The injured man was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment up to yesterday.
