The injured teen Johnny Persaud, who was involved in the recent fatal accident at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, has regained consciousness and is now breathing on his own.
A relative of the injured teen told Stabroek News that while Persaud is still unable to speak, family members were informed that he will be discharged soon.
Persaud, 17, was left critically injured in an accident that left Shonica Edwards and Anthony Persaud dead and several others injured after the bus they were travelling in toppled several times.
The driver of the bus, Kevon Moore, has since been charged with several offences, including causing the deaths of Edwards and Persaud.
Police, in a report, stated that at the time of the accident minibus BXX 7256, being driven by Moore, was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the Diamond road at a fast rate. Moore allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which toppled several times and came to a stop facing in a south-eastern direction.
As a result, all the passengers were injured.
Passengers Jessie Wishart, 23, and Joel Wishart 20, Odarry Gonsalves 18, Valencia George, 18, and Shane Argyle, 17, all of Land of Canaan, EBD, were all treated and discharged by the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after the accident.
Several other passengers were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital. They were identified as Sabrina Corlette, 18, of Lot 186 Hyde Park, Timehri, EBD, who suffered a dislocated right ankle and head injuries, Seth Abrams, 18, of Lot 66 Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, who suffering from deep abrasion injuries to the right leg, and Edgar Dublin, 17, of Land of Canaan, who suffered from abrasions to the shoulders and back.
Michael James, 16, of Lot 29 Koker Dam, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, suffered injuries to his head and neck.
