Pigeon Island pedal cyclist hospitalised after being struck by car

A twenty-three-year-old Pigeon Island pedal cyclist is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing injuries he received after he allegedly rode into the path of a car on the Chateau Margot Public Road, East Coast Demerara, Saturday night.

The injured man has been identified as Timothy Bacchus of Lot 114 Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara.

According to a police report, the car, PYY3530, which was involved in the accident, was driven by 52-year-old Aszim Baksh of Lot 123 Phase 1, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.

Enquiries revealed that about 9 pm, the car was driving east along the southern side of the southern carriageway on the above mentioned road at a normal rate of speed when according to the driver, Bacchus who was riding at the center of the road swerved to avoid another car and ended up in his path, resulting in the collision.

After he was struck down, Bacchus was placed into an ambulance and taken to the GPH where he was admitted and kept for observation.

A Breathalyzer test conducted on Baksh showed no trace of alcohol in his system.
