Accused in rape of girl, 12, found not guilty

A jury yesterday afternoon acquitted Dexter McIntosh of raping a 12-year-old girl.

By a majority verdict of 10 to 2, the panel found McIntosh not guilty of the charge that on January 1st, 2015 in the county of Demerara, he sexually penetrated the 12-year-old.

After hours of deliberations, the jury announced that it had found the former-accused not guilty of the charge levelled against him.

Earlier this year, another jury was unable to arrive at a verdict in the matter against McIntosh

The trial proceedings were held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court of the Supreme Court in Demerara and presided over by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.

The accused was represented by attorney George Thomas.

The state was represented by Prosecutors Sarah Martin and Nafeeza Baig.
