The fruitful relationship between Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) and Poonai’s pharmacy was renewed last Thursday when the medical entity handed over a cheque of $200,000 to renew its sponsorship of the club’s Under-13 team.

The presentation was done by  Managing Director of the pharmacy, Poonai Bhigroog, to RHTYSC’s organising secretary, Ravindranauth Kissonlall in the presence of executive member, Tyrone Pottaya and vice-captain of the team Tameshwar Deonandan.

Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, expressed gratitude to Bhigroog for his continued support of the club and stated that the Under-13 team was one of the club’s 11 teams.

The team serves as the nursery for the Farfan and Mendes Under-15 team and currently has about 30 members under Captain Sohail Mohammed.

National junior player, Jonathan Rampersaud, will serve as the team mentor along with club assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu while Kissonlall and Pottaya are the managers.

The team was formed in 2017 with sponsorship from the company and emerged as runner up in the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) championship in 2018. In December, 2019 the team defeated Albion Cricket Club in the Trophy Stall Tournament to emerge champions in an exciting final at the Hampshire Ground.

The team has begun preparing for the restart of the BCB 2021 season and is confident of defending its title when play starts in the BCB/ Romario Shepherd Under 13 tournament.

The team and its management will also be involved in a minimum of 20 social development programmes with the objective of making a positive difference in the lives of others including the distribution of cycles, school bags and food hampers to youths and less fortunate.

Bjigroog, in remarks, said that he was delighted to renew his sponsorship as he was very impressed with the work of the club adding that he is well aware of the positive difference that the club was making in the lives of others. The club and team, Bhigroog noted, has been outstanding flag bearers of his company’s brand and he committed himself to a long term relationship.

Meanwhile, the Poonai Pharmacy Under-13 team has already started to fulfill its commitment to sponsorship by handing over five bicycles to youths attending the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Port Mourant.

The bicycles were handed over to the youths under the RHTYSC/Basil Butcher Memorial Trust Fund. Foster, who handed over the bicycles to the youths along with Parish Priest Ramesh Vanan stated that the church has played a major role in the formation of the club and as such the RHTYSC was totally committed to assisting as much as possible.
