Taxi driver robbed of car in Superbet hold up

A taxi driver was robbed of his car on Thursday night when two men attacked a Superbet outlet at Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the attack occurred around 9.10 pm as the business was being closed.

The robbers, described as “identifiable males,” including one armed with a handgun and dressed in army fatigues, made off with valuables from four persons who were on the premises, including the taxi driver.

The police said that the cashier went to close the shop’s shutters when one of suspects held her at gunpoint and the other victims were then forced to lie on the floor while the robbers emptied their pockets.

The suspect dressed in the army fatigues then approached the cashier and pointed the gun at her and told her to open the door, which she did.

He then pulled open the drawer and removed cash.

The 20-year-old cashier was robbed of $220,000, a 29-year-old male upholsterer was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy phone, valued $45,000, a 49-year-old male was robbed of an A10 cellphone, valued $46,000, $46,000 in cash, a $30,000 gold chain and a car key, while the 33-year-old male taxi driver of was robbed of his white Fielder Wagon, HC 7599, valued $2,647,000, and which the robbers used for their escape.

Up to yesterday, the car had not been recovered.
