A 22-year-old woman is now in police custody pending a charge after claiming that she was robbed of $450,000 in an attack at the Best Bet Superbet at Patentia, West Bank Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force yesterday said that under questioning the woman eventually confessed that she made up a report after gambling away $300,000 of the business’ money.

The woman had reported to police that she was attacked at the business by a gunman, who purportedly stole the cash along with her jewellery and a cellphone around 7.30 pm on Monday evening.

She said he escaped on a black motorcycle.

The woman made a report to the Wales Police Station.

However, according to the police, as investigators questioned her, she confessed to never being robbed and related that she had gambled and lost $300,000 of the business’ money, which led her to concoct the plot. She eventually took the police to her residence, where the money and the articles were found stored in a washroom.
