Caribbean countries receive shot in the arm from AIBA

In excess of G$2M of boxing and gym equipment has been donated to the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) by its governing body, AIBA.

In turn, the GBA handed over the equipment yesterday to the 15 affiliated boxing gyms nationwide during a press briefing in the boardroom at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

According to President of the GBA and Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, the injection of the equipment amid the COVID-19 pandemic is a promised fulfilled by President of the AIBA, Umar Kremlev.

Ninvalle pointed out that the donation will be a shot in the arm for boxers and their respective gyms countrywide.

“Guyana has received, so has several countries within the English speaking Caribbean, Central America, North America, Asia and Europe and across the world. We are very happy to have this injection which will assist us greatly in the development despite being in the middle of a pandemic.”

Ninvalle added “This will assist us in remaining the number one boxing nation in CARICOM.”

The GBA head praised the Russian, Kremlev for keeping his promises and opined that once he remains at the helm of AIBA, each and every one of the 204 countries affiliated will see a meteoric rise with regards to the fistic sport.

He then stated that the gear consisted of gloves, ropes, heavy bags, speed bags, head guards, mouth guards, bandages, pads and “just about every single thing that any gym would need.”

In the presence of GBA’s Technical Director, Terrence Poole and other representatives of the various gyms, Ninvalle then thanked Kremlev and AIBA on behalf of the GBA.

“On behalf of the GBA, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Kremlev. Guyana will continue to support his initiatives and we do hope that he can continue supporting Guyana, the Caribbean and our initiatives.”

In conclusion, Ninvalle disclosed that he would be making periodic visits to the gyms to ensure that the equipment is being used for its intended purposes.

Top gyms like the Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Police Force, the Forgotten Youth Foundation, Young Achievers, Essequibo Boxing Gym, Rose Hall Jammers, Charity Boxing Gym, Lethem Boxing Gym and others will be the recipients of the donation by AIBA. (Emmerson Campbell)
