‘Spragga’ charged over cocaine

A man has been remanded after being charged following the interception of a boat suspected to be smuggling cannabis into Suriname.

Jagdeo Ramdass known as ‘Spragga’, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranuth Singh at the Springlands Magistrate’s court on Monday when he was charged and remanded. He denied that on December 8, at Moleson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, he had in his possession 684 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

The matter was adjourned until December 20, for report and fixture.

According to a release by the Custom Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), ranks acting on information received, conducted an operation at Moleson Creek. During the operation, officers intercepted a wooden boat suspected to be smuggling narcotics to Suriname.

The ranks searched the boat in the presence of three persons who were on board and found the narcotics. The cannabis was weighed and yielded a total of 684 grammes. Ramdass was then charged following an investigation.
