`Razor’, Campbell, Fung in winning flexes

Darious ‘Razor’ Ramsammy, Emmerson Campbell and Rosanna Fung added more hardware to their bodybuilding trophy cabinet  on Sunday night.

The trio flexed and posed their award winning physiques and earned the marquee titles at this year’s National Senior Bodybuilding Championship which was staged at the National Cultural Centre.

In the absence of local bodybuilding ruler, Kerwin Clarke, ‘Razor’ used his first sharp mass of muscle to slice through the competition to earn his first Mr. Guyana title. Campbell completed a handful of Men’s Physique titles, taking home his fifth trophy.

With poise and grace, the statuesque Fung strutted her way to her second Ms. Bikini National title.

On a night when a live audience returned to the ornate splendour of the venue, the patrons were not disappointed as the 26 athletes in the three categories put on quite a show.  All the classes were competitive and the bodybuilding starved fans left the flagship event of the federation satiated.

Bodybuilding

Ramsammy had a close battle with rising star, Nicholas Albert in the under 176-lb class that had the venue buzzing.

However, Ramsammy who won gold at the Santo Domingo Open in October, got the judges’ nod over Albert who snared a silver at the same event.

Ramsammy then went on to win the overall and the $300,000 cash prize with the other category winners, Roger Callender (under 143), Marlon Bennet (under 154), and Colin ‘Mr Clean’ Chesney (over 177).

Men’s Physique

Campbell won his fifth national title and the $200,000 first prize ahead of a game Yannick Grimes and new talent, Jonathan Jeffrey. Ronaldo Caldeira placed fourth and Daniel Lutchman brought up the rear.

Campbell, who has aspirations of winning a pro card next July at the CAC Championships in Barbados brought the shape and stage presence the judges most wanted to see.  He was confident, well-proportioned, well-muscled and conditioned.

Ms. Bikini

In a year full of uncertainty, Fung’s dominance on the local Bikini stage remained constant.

The 22 year-old was the near perfect mix of muscularity, symmetry, beauty and style and after two wins in 2019 and a win last year, she took home the trophy once again for the Ms. Bikini segment. She too is also poised for international success.

Angelica Barroncos placed second while 2019 Novices champion, Asanti Conway finished third among the field of five Bikini athletes.

Following the event which was sponsored by Fitness Express, the Ministry of Sport and DTS Trading and Shipping, the federation’s President, Keavon Bess stated that “it was an incident free night of great bodybuilding and fitness challenges“.
