Convict remanded on charges of stealing jewellery, motorcycle

Andrew Ridley was on Wednesday remanded to prison after a court heard that he stole several pieces of gold jewellery and a motorcycle.

Ridley, 29, of Calendar and James streets, Albouystown, was arraigned before Magistrate, Annette Singh, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, when the charges were read to him. Ridley denied that on December 13, 2022, at Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, he stole a motorcycle valued $235,000, property of Alex Blaire, and that on 24 January, at Calendar and James Streets, Albouystown, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, he stole three cellphones, three gold chains, two gold bands, ten rings, and a purse, all with a combined total value of $4,569,500, property of Carla Stevenson.

Given a chance to address the court, Ridley said that he knows Stevenson and that he is innocent of the latter charge. Blaire, who was present at Court, informed Magistrate Singh that Ridley’s family has made arrangements to pay for all damage caused to his motorcycle. He said that it was returned to him, but an estimate of all the damage caused will have to be assessed by a mechanic.

In addition, the Magistrate heard that Ridley has multiple charges of a similar nature and pending matters before the courts. The Police Prosecutor informed Magistrate Singh that Ridley was previously charged with a series of break and enter and larceny offences. In August 2021, Ridley was charged with robbing Ayanna McKean. Ridley had said he did not have previous matters before the court, but the Police Prosecutor pointed out that he had been sentenced for a similar offence. Ridley told the court that he had forgotten about the time served. The Prosecutor objected to a bail request, which was also denied by Magistrate Singh. Ridley was told that he will remain in custody until the arrangements to fix the motorcycle was assured. The matter was adjourned to February 16.
