Body of Linden pensioner found in river

The lifeless body of a 69-year-old pensioner was discovered floating in the Demerara River at about 5:48 pm yesterday, according to the Guyana Police Force.

The dead man has been identified as Ronald Gregory Muss of Lot 463 Oronoque Street, Retrieve, Mackenzie, Linden.

According to the police, the dead man was nearsighted and feeble due to nerve issues. He was last seen alive by his niece about 09:40 am when he reportedly left home for the NIS Linden Branch.

After it was discovered that the elderly man had not returned home, checks were made for him without success. A boat operator told police that while offloading passengers at the Courts Landing he observed the body of the man lying in the water. He immediately made a report to the police after which Muss’s body was retrieved from the river. 

The police related that they discovered no mark of violence on the pensioner’s body which is at the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
