Three held at Diamond over $6.3m cannabis

Three men were arrested on Tuesday following the discovery of $6.3 million worth of cannabis at Diamond, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The suspects have been identified as Andrew Carew called ‘Daddo’, 42; Rayanthony Persaud also known as ‘Tony’, 47 and Sheldon Hope called ‘Fine Man”, 37.

In a press release yesterday, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said that ranks acting on information received conducted an operation in Diamond, New Housing Scheme, EBD during which six parcels of suspected cannabis were discovered.

The three men were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters where the narcotic was tested and confirmed to be cannabis, CANU said.

It added that the cannabis  was weighed and amounted to 5.7 kilograms with a street value of $6.3 million.

Investigations are ongoing.
