South Ruimveldt woman remanded on armed robbery charge

A woman was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that she robbed a man of $208,000 in an armed attack with two male accomplices.

Ronda Junor, of South Ruimveldt, was taken before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where she was faced with the charge.

The mother of one denied that on April 1, 2022 at Regent and Wellington streets, she robbed Joel Jacobs of $208, 000 while being armed with a surgical blade. It is also alleged that she used the blade to inflict a wound to the complainant’s left hand.

The court heard from prosecutor Doodnauth Bridgemohan that on the day in question, the woman asked Jacobs “if he wants to do business with her.” The man then walked away but noticed that the woman was following him.

Bridgemohan said Jacobs was suddenly approached by two unidentified males, one of whom choked him while the other pushed his hands into his pocket. In addition, the woman allegedly took out the surgical blade and cut Jacobs on his left hand and the three then escaped.

Junor told the court that on the day in question Jacobs offered her $2,000 and then told her: “You don’t do nothing for $2,000?” She said this led to him inappropriately touching her and as a result she tried to defend herself.

However, Jacobs, who was also present, maintained that on the said date, the woman approached him and asked him to do business with her. The man said that he then walked away but noticed that the woman was following him.

Junor pleaded not guilty but the prosecutor objected to bail due to the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.

Bail was denied and Junor will make her next court appearance on April 19th, 2022.
