Barbados gov’t recognizes Guyana for help in fight against pandemic

The Government of Barbados on Thursday awarded the Government of Guyana for its assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the award was conferred at the Inaugural Humanitarian Award Ceremony, held at the Kensington Oval, on Heroes Day, a national holiday when the people of Barbados reflect on the several achievements of post-independence nationhood and in particular recognize the valuable contributions made by citizens.

Geneva Tyndall, acting Consul General of Guyana, received the Award – a Humanitarian Plaque – from President of Barbados Dame Sandra Mason.

In addition to Guyana, Canada, China, Cuba, India and the United States of America were also received plaques. 

Secretary-General of the World Health Organisation Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyeus was a special guest at the ceremony.
