GCB has eye on weather ahead of final Harpy Eagles practice match

The Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) final practice match for the Harpy Eagles is set to commence tomorrow at the Providence National Stadium but the Guyana Cricket Board officials are keeping one eye on the weather.

The previous practice match got underway on May 2 at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road, amidst overcast conditions.

Teams were led by Leon Johnson and Keemo Paul

And the match was geared at enhancing the team’s preparations ahead of the May 18 resumption of the West Indies Championship in Trinidad and Tobago.

Hopes for a rain-free encounter were dashed however as Johnson’s XI were 13-3 replying to Paul’s XI’s

177 all out when the rains came and the match was eventually abandoned.

The last time the championships were held was the 2019-20 edition which was aborted after eight of the ten round fixture, and Barbados, in the lead at that point, were declared champions.

Last year’s season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and was not held.

This year, the first two rounds saw the Harpy Eagles playing the Windward and Leeward Islands in the Twin Island Republic, winning against the former but losing to the latter.

The team will look to better their performances in the remaining three matches scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago.
